Whether you’re going to be surfing, body boarding, or going under the sea to explore, you’ll need to get some equipment. The most common of which includes the right wetsuit. There are a wide variety of options to explore, many which can leave a novice unsure of what to invest in. For those that aren’t sure what to do in regards to picking the right one, consider the following 3 tips. These are just some helpful ideas for those that are serious about going into the ocean.
• Length of Suit – Before you purchase any wetsuit make sure that you consider the length in both arms and legs. There are two main options that need to be focused on at this point. One is the full suit which covers the arms and legs and there’s the short suit that covers the torso with short sleeves and short legs. The main difference, aside from the cut, is price. A person that is going into colder waters will want a full suit where as others will want a shorter suit since the waters will not be frigid.
• Thickness – This is crucial for those that are going into frigid waters. For those looking to surf or get into the ocean in the early morning, before the sun rises, you’ll want to have a thick suit. The thicker the suit, the warmer you’ll be even in near frozen waters. It’s important to select a suit that is going to match up the locale where you’re going to be moving into.
• Stretch – When selecting the right wetsuit, you’re going to have focus on the way it stretches across your body. You’ll find that some options are quite tight and do not give much room for movement. You’ll need to make sure that the neoprene gives a little stretch and give for the contours of your body. This is crucial for those that are surfing, and making a lot of moves in the ocean. Without the stretch, getting on a board will be rough to get used to.
After selecting the right option for you, it’s important to break the option in. Much like a new pair of shoes the right wetsuit is not going to be the greatest on day one. You’ll need to work it in, and let the contours fill out with your body’s natural build. Once submerged in water, you should feel a main difference between having it on and not at all.
For those that aren’t sure where to start, consider looking at online reviews from people that have purchased options before. Finding something that works for you can be as easy as asking someone that has more than “marketing” speech. Always make sure to investigate size, length, thickness, and stretch before you purchase anything. You don’t want to have to thin a suit if you’re surfing Alaska, and you don’t want a thick suit if you’re out by the Equator. Look for items that are specifically made for your next excursion. Before buying a board, or anything else, always look into getting the right wetsuit.
