Picking the Right Ski Wear for First-Time Snowboarders

If you have had your fill of the city atmosphere and wish to take a break from the fast-paced urban lifestyle, it is probably time for you to bring out the adventurer in you and go on a holiday up on a peaceful, snowcapped mountain. However, before you challenge such an extreme environment on skis, make sure to have the following items ready in your travel luggage:

Ski jacket - Being your primary protection from the elements, select a less bulky piece that is resistant to wind and snow, which should also be close-fitting at the waist, neck, and cuffs. Also, buy one with a hood or a high collar and lots of pockets.

Trousers/board pants - For the bottom part, experienced skiers recommend a pair with a high waist so there will be a good overlap between the jacket and the pants. Aside from this, look for board trousers with reinforced knees though you have to ensure that you can freely move in the item you chose.

Aside from the said pieces, remember to wear clothes in layers when you are out in the snow so you can stay comfortably warm despite the cold atmosphere. Ideally, you should wear 3 thin layers composed of a thermal base, a long-sleeved polo with neck, and a microfleece jacket, along with these other ski wear essentials:

Eyewear - Goggles with UV400 rating should be worn to protect your eyes from the icy wind and the burning rays of the sun.

Mitts/gloves - A pair with a decent insulation, breathability, and waterproof properties is a good choice. Additionally, wear a pair that keeps your fingers warm but lets you firmly grip a ski pole.

Headwear - With 15 to 25% of body heat going out of your head up on the mountain, use a hat that can cover your ears as well as a helmet. Wear a balaclava for additional warmth and comfort too.

Socks - For its warmth and sweat absorption capability, a tube sock that covers the entire legs and made with 40% wool is a requirement.

Sunscreen - Since the sunburn on top a mountain is far worse than those you get at the beach, apply high-altitude ski cream with a factor 30 on your face and use a lip balm with the right SPF amount.

Boots - Keep your feet warm while skiing by securing water-resistant ski boots that are non-slip with fleece liners.

With all these packed in your bag, you are definitely set for the challenges that the slopes can give you.
