The Advantages and Disadvantages of College Dating

There are good things that college dating can offer college students with. It involves fun, meeting other people, and a milestone in learning more about their selves. But it is important that a college student weighs the advantages and disadvantages that it may bring before getting involved in the dating scene.

Here are some of the advantages that college dating can provide:

Variety of People

Goodbye to the limited selection of people that you constantly see from your high school and home town. When you are in college, there a lot of new faces that you can daily encounter thus can be translated into a hundred potential dates in the future. You are now going to move beyond the people that you have met during your four years in high school and jumping into a sea of new people that you know nothing about. This usually opens a lot of exciting ideas for you to try when decided to date a person and know more about him or her.

Freedom from the Eyes of Your Parents

Finally, you are now in college. You are now far from the eyes of your parents who are constantly giving their own opinions whenever you bring in some new guy or girl at home for dinner. This is not a form of rebellion. It is just something that you want to know all by yourself not really ignoring their opinions but getting yours involved as well. College students can now date anyone that they like without having to worry about what their parents are about to say to them. They can now be more open to dating a variety of people from different backgrounds.

But college dating cannot be all about freedom and good stuffs. There are also some limitations that one needs to watch out for. Some of the potential problems that might be involved in dating in college are as follows:

Student's Mind-setting

There are some college students who are dating just to have fun while others are dating to get a chance to find their future husband or wife. Sometimes, college students often argue about their mindsets due to the fact that they have different opinions. This can create potential disappointments in the future thus making them distracted along the way.

Finding Balance between Studies and Relationship

One of the most foreseen dangers of getting involved with college dating is that a student can potentially be distracted from their academic matters. This can also be the same with too much partying, getting a part-time job and/or joining a fraternity or a sorority. A student should know how to take everything in moderation and to know their own priorities to help them in enjoying their college life. This can create a good experience in both their social and scholarly matters.

Alcohol and Dating

During college, a lot of social gatherings can be attended and most of the time, alcohol is involved. As long as you know your own limitation on things, this will not be a problem.
