Glass Painting some Beautiful Handmade Birthday Cards

There are two contrastive kinds of glass paint - water based and non-water-based. Both of them have a wide range of colors and are intermixable within their ranges.

There are three different ways of applying an outline whilst designing glass painted birthday card:

Glass Paint Outline stickers - Novices to glass painting will find these perfect and they are best applied on flat, smooth surfaces. Starting out in the corner, carefully peel up the sticker, being careful not to stretch or distort it and apply it to the clean glass surface area of your birthday cards.

Glass paint outliner - These are applied by squeezing the outliner out of a tube to provide a fine outline. They are available in a choice of colours. They can be used in 2 ways, one would be as an outline for a pattern, the second way is to apply them onto a pre-painted surface as fine detailing.

Leading Tape - Doors and windows usually need this type of outliner.

Method:

Prior to starting to paint, be sure there are no traces of dust and grease on the glass area of the birthday cards, thereby ensuring good adherence. A solvent like white spirit or methylated spirit should also be used.
Because a birthday card has a flat surface, designs are usually traced straight through. It is easier to work on a flat surface, so try to lay the birthday card on a horizontal surface.

To create a straight line with a glass paint outliner touch the nozzle onto a glass surface then applying a soft steady pressure, lift the nozzle from the surface and stretch out the out liner along in a straight line. Tap the nozzle down on the glass surface when you are ending the line.
While completing areas in between outlines on the glass part of your birthday cards with a paint brush, apply paint liberally by peddling the paint or adopting a pipette. This is able to provide a flat, stained-glass look. To get a lighter color paint, weaken with water for the water based paints or gloss varnish for the non-water based paints.

Always pour paint into a palette rather than straight from the jar. This prevents colours turning dirty or diluted. Glass paint can also be applied using a sponge, however birthday cards are more likely to have lesser areas, whereas this method is usually better for bigger areas.

To finish, you may want to safeguard your solvent based paints with a coat of varnish, which is available in both a matt or gloss finish. Birthday cards are usually created with a gloss finish, although if you want something distinctive, you may choose to use matt varnish. The gloss varnish can be used as a colourless thinner to obtain pastel shades without affecting the transparency and depth of colour. The matt varnish provides a finish similar to frosted glass. To add finishing touches to a project, while the paint is still wet, you can use tweezers to add beads or sequins. The damp paint is able to act as a glue. Glitter can also be added by sprinkling it onto the wet paint to give your birthday cards that extra bit of glisten.

Note: While using these techniques in conditions other than for your birthday cards, glass paint is supposed to be used simply for ornamental objects, the colors usually are not dishwasher proof. It can, nonetheless be cleaned by wiping with a moist flannel.
