Design Tips For The Home: How To Emphasize Corner Fireplaces

Conventional fireplaces were previously used as a cooking, heating and lighting facility. But today, they are more appreciated as a decorative piece. This is understandable considering their form. But many homeowners find it difficult to make fireplaces the main attraction of any room. There’s so much to feature – both technology and design options – that corner fireplaces end up being overshadowed. It’s definitely a shame to waste such a beauty. But you should not just compromise what you want to accommodate one structure. To help you come up with the appropriate design scheme to complement your taste and give your fireplace the attention it deserves, here are some tips you might want to try out.

First, you could accentuate corner fireplaces with a mirror and place it side by side with your media center so that both could share the spotlight. Placing them close to each other avoid competition for attention. And it would allow you to enjoy both warmth and entertainment comfortably because you can position your couch in front of both. You can place a coffee table in front of the couch to accommodate drinks and food. And behind it, you can station tables with vases and figurines to emphasize the them you are trying to foster.

You could also place elaborate artworks and embellishments (candlesticks, figurines, tapestries, etc.) on top of the corner fireplace mantle if you decide to downplay its role. That way, it remains to be relevant despite the attention being thrown to an opposing wall. It would be practical, though, to keep couches and chair adjacent to the hearth (even though they are looking away) so that you can still enjoy the warmth it provides when you stretch out and relax on them. And if it doesn’t offend your sense of style, you could incorporate swivel chairs in the set up so you and your guests could instantly transition from appreciating another furnishing to admiring the fireplace.

Alternately, you could also decide to apply color contrast in your room’s design so the corner fireplace is still able to stand out even though there are other important furnishings in the area. For example, if you have a slate fireplace that is black in hue, you could paint its surroundings with salmon pink to make the facility pop out without even trying. Now, if for instance, you’d like to highlight multiple focal points, you’d do better applying a monochromatic palette instead so everything is given a chance to shine.

If you are looking to do minor remodelling in the fireplace’ area, you could add built-in cabinets and incorporate the fireplace so that there is a continuous, cohesive look between it and your other ornaments. You could adorn the space on top of it with lighting to add drama to the device. Just see to it that you observe proper symmetry since it could also influence how people act inside the area. As a final tip to highlighting corner fireplaces, you could also place a platform in front of it so it comes off as an important article in your house.
