Swimming Pool Basketball Hoops Provide Hours of Excitement

If you are looking for a unique way to stay in shape, consider installing swimming pool basketball hoops in your backyard pool. Water basketball is a combination between traditional basketball and water polo, and you can play for exercise or you can organize some teams and play by formal rules. Either way, swimming pool basketball hoops can be instrumental in providing the relaxation and exercise that everyone needs to retain optimal health. The resistance of the water forces you to work out a bit harder than usual, so you will get especially good exercise by playing in deeper water. Buying a pool table for sale is another way to combine exercise and fun competitiveness.

When creating teams for water basketball, you can recruit as many players as you like, but it is only necessary for five people from each team to be in the water at any given time. The game begins when the chosen referee offers a jump ball to a player from each team. The other players from both teams need to be a minimum of three feet away from where the jump ball takes place. The player who wins the jump ball should pass it to a team mate right away or try to shoot at the basket of the opposing team from the middle of the pool. A formal game of water basketball is divided into two halves of 16 minutes each.

Each player may hold onto the ball for no more than 30 seconds before being required to pass it to a team mate or shoot for a basket. If a player exceeds this time limit, the ball is automatically given to the other team. Another important rule to abide by is to throw or pass the ball if an opponent is attempting to guard you and is less than six feet away from you. If this happens, you have only five seconds to get rid of the ball. Violations can be called on any players who brings the ball underwater, dunks the ball or who touches the rim of the basket.
